The Cuaba brand was first established in London in 1996, making it the
first of the new Cuban cigar brands to be brought into commercial production since
1968. Cuaba being the Taino Indian word for the Cuban bush used to
light the "Cohiba" or the "Tobacco" on the island. The Cuaba cigars are in
the figurado (perfecto) shape. Fat through the centre of the shaft, with
both ends pointed. This was traditionally a popular shape right up until the
beginning of the 20th century and, in fact, the smoking of the
figurados was a British tradition. No doubt this is why Habanos S.A.
unveiled the brand initially in London, they have latterly
reintroduced other historic brands and shapes.
The
Cuaban range is manufactured from tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo region, in the
Romeo y Julieta factory. They are rich and
smoothly flavoured, with an almost chocolate aroma, despite their size.
